Capacity & leadership building

Immigrants make Pennsylvania stronger and are everywhere across the commonwealth. At the Pennsylvania Immigration Coalition, we continue to grow and expand our support throughout state.

GROWING THE IMMIGRANT RIGHTS MOVEMENT IN Pennsylvania

In addition to coordinating immigrant rights advocacy, PIC supports coalition members in building capacity to both engage in advocacy work and to expand services for immigrant communities across the state, with the long-term goal of providing equal access to resources to immigrant communities throughout the commonwealth.

PIC does this by providing up-to-date and accurate information on immigration issues and policies, leadership development opportunities outside of the coalition and funding leads to our members. PIC also develops materials and runs leadership development trainings for members to have a deeper dive into issues, policy and systems analysis, or skill building workshops. And the coalition model provides members with a statewide network for cross sector learning and collaboration.

PIC also supports members in the Pennsylvania Immigrant Family Unity Project (PAIFUP) in advocating for an increase in public dollars to expand capacity for free legal representation for individuals in deportation proceedings. Equitable access to counsel contributes greatly to fewer deportations and more families staying together.

And with the launch of the Pennsylvania Fund for Immigrant Rights and Equity (PA FIRE), PIC, in partnership with philanthropic partners, is collectively fundraising to advance the coordinated statewide plan to protect and advance immigrant rights. For members to continue to grow their capacity to engage in advocacy work and provide services, historic investment is needed into the coalition.
