PICC Joins Rep. Payton at Introduction of PA DREAM Act

PICC joined Representative Tony Payton as well as DreamActivist Pennsylvania and Nationalities Service Center to hold a press conference on Monday June 20 to present the Pennsylvania DREAM Act.

This Act will grant undocumented youth in Pennsylvania the right to pay in-state tuition provided they meet certain strict restrictions. The DREAM Act provides equal benefits to students regardless of their immigration status—it is important to offer equality and opportunity to deserving students who are undocumented  through no fault of their own. If passed, Pennsylvania will become the 12th state to institute a uniform policy of tuition benefits for undocumented students and will invariably create a more educated work force with little cost.

Speakers from the day included State Representative Tony Payton; Dr. Jerry Zurek from Cabrini College; Dr. Raquel Atena Green from Cabrini College; Fernando Trevino from Democracia; Keren, a recent undocumented High School graduate; and Cesar, a current college student.

The press conference was covered in many news outlets across the country. Click here to read an article by the AP published  in the Beaver County Times. Click here to read Al Dia's Spanish language coverage.
