PICC Participates in Public Hearing on the Pennsylvania Compact

Today, PICC and our allies particpated in a public hearing chaired by Councilman Kenney on immigration reform and the benefits of the Pennsylvania Compact.

There is a legislation package of hateful and anti-immigrant legislation that has recently been introduced in the Pennsylvania Legislature. To fight the negative impact of these bills, our extensive panel discussed the benefits of signing the Pennsylvania Compact. The Pennsylvania Compact is a statement of values aimed to bring about civil discussions on immigration to avoid an atmosphere of fear and hatred towards immigrants. The Compact is an important step that will ensure immigrant rights, create stronger bonds of trust among communities and police, and encourage a society free of discrimination.

Panelists included our own Brad Baldia; Richard Negrin, Managing Director; Stan Straughter, Mayor’s Office of African and Carribbean Affairs; Nina Ahmad, Mayor's Commission on Asian American Affairs; Judi Bernstein-Baker, Executive Director HIAS and Council Migration Service; Patience Lehrman, Project SHINE.
